Becky Sawtelle is the Queen of Weight Loss!

Becky Sawtelle is the Queen of Weight Loss!

I think today should be all about Becky Sawtelle. No wait, let’s give her the entire rest of the week. She deserves it! For most of Becky’s life she struggled with her weight and finally decided to have gastric by-pass surgery. Dr. Jamie Loggins, from the Central Maine Bariatric Surgery Center did the procedure the end of January.

When I wrote an update in March she was not happy with how things were going. Here’s what she had to say: “I had a really strong relationship with food. Now I can’t eat whatever, whenever, and how much I want. I miss that.”

Portlanders vote on school budget, whether to vote on school budget

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Voters in several communities in Maine go to the polls to approve or reject their local school budgets but that process may be changing.

In 2007 a new state law was passed that required school budgets to be validated by taxpayers through a referendum vote.

Now that law is coming under fire in some communities where officials say the cost of opening up polling places and paying election workers is not worth it.

In the City of Portland Tuesday, the doors were open at eleven polling places but for much of the day poll workers outnumbered voters.

City officials expect turnout for the school budget vote to be in the low single digits. Mayor Michael Brennan says it is a waste of money to spend more than $13,000 to hold the vote.

Mayor Brennan urges voters to do away with the validation vote.

New neonatal ambulance for Barbara Bush Children's Hospital

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital has a new ambulance, and it is quite a set of wheels.

It's a Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Ambulance.
It's designed specifically to transport sick or injured children or infants.

This ambulance replaces one of two North East Mobile Health Services uses to help the Children's Hospital.

It's a $300-thousand truck, funded completely by money raised in the community.

It's the largest ambulance they've ever had, and will allow some breathing room; each transport requires an EMT, ambulance driver, respiratory therapist, critical care nurse, and a neonatal nurse practitioner or physician.

Maine Medical Center has two ambulances dedicated to neonatal transport, and they stay busy. In the last 6 years, they've put about 2-million miles on the road.
