Day of Prayer and Penance Postponed

Due to the death of a priest and arrangements for his funeral, the day of prayer and penance for harm done to survivors and the faithful by past incidents of clergy sexual abuse will be postponed by one week. The Mass will be held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland on Tuesday, April 5th, at 12:15.

Reverend Joseph W. Arps, Jr., 63 died on Saturday, March 26, and as is customary for the death of a priest, Bishop Richard Malone will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.  The funeral Mass is taking place tomorrow at 11:00, March 29th, at St. John Church, St. Paul the Apostle Parish, Bangor.*

The bishop will also celebrate the Mass for the day of prayer and penance.

“Each year, I ask the clergy to join me by marking a day of atonement for past offenses,” said Malone.

Circuit - Wherein the Old Man Complains

Circuit - Wherein the Old Man Complains

CAN our two mysterious heroes stop the gangs from fighting in the streets?

HOW are they misunderstanding the poor old man?

WHAT does he really want?

DOES it involve listening to really long stories that have no point?

Not that today's Circuit does that! Does it? No, there's a point... trust me. Mainly, the point is to make at least one person laugh, besides myself, but there are other points as well. But... I can't tell you, because that would ruin it. Wait... what was I talking about? Oh, right...

Go read some Circuit!

While i've been away

While i've been away

So in case all my ten fans out there (mom & family) have been wondering where I've been the last week from NEWS CENTER, my fiancé Elise and I took some time to journey westward and visit my cousins in California.

I haven't been back to Cali since going to school at Cal State San Bernardino almost two years ago. Since then my cousin Kierra and her husband Bobby had a baby who turned 11 months-old while we were out there. The trip was relaxing and full of incredible food... literally my pants were busting at the seams the entire time I was so full. From true Mexican to one of my favorite Frozen Yogurt places, "Cherry on Top." I think we stopped by to get froyo (frozen yogurt) at least once a day! While the food was great, and the scenery gorgeous, what really made the trip worth while was spending time with family.

The video I admit is lengthy, but jamming my whole week into a few minutes is not easy!

The Sexual Assault Crisis & Support line needs volunteer advocates

Volunteers are needed to train as Advocates for Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine’s (SARSSM) 24-hour Crisis & Support Line.

Applications are now being taken for a free training session, beginning Wednesday May 4th, and concluding Wednesday May 25th. Held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m., and two Saturdays, May 7th and 21st 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the 40-hour comprehensive training covers topics such as: the brain’s response to trauma; communication and listening skills; and victim advocacy.  “If you are someone who is willing to listen, who wants to have a rewarding experience, who cares and who wants to make a difference, this is a wonderful opportunity,” says Charlene Powell, SARSSM’s Crisis & Support Line Manager.

The 24-hour Crisis & Support Line assists callers in York and Cumberland counties. Volunteer Advocates work from home, have flexible hours, choose their shifts and do not need any experience.

Young At Heart and enjoying life on the stage

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The sounds coming from the stage at the Merrill Auditorium in Portland Sunday came from a group determined to enjoy every day.

The Young At Heart Chorus has traveled the world entertaining audiences with their vocals and acting talents highlighting pop and rock tunes from the late 20th Century.

Sunday's concert was in support of Volunteers of America and Northeast Hearing and Speech.

June Koegal from Volunteers of America says the group shows how active seniors can be in their community.

"As we develop senior housing across the state and special in home support we really want to communicate the massage that just because you are getting older, because you're a senior that you can be a really excellent participant within the community," said Koegal.

ARE those gangs ever going to fight?

WILL our two heroes catch it in time? Or...

WILL the old man make them miss it?

HOW good is the view from that window?

It's a well-placed shack. It was built with fight watching in mind. Not a ton of creature comforts, but it does have that going for it. Kind of skews the property value a bit, though. It's surprisingly expensive for a place with no bathroom and a completely exposed fire pit in it. It's all about the location, I guess.

Know what's not that expensive? Today's Circuit! It's basically free, if you don't count the cost of the Internet connection you're using to look at it. But if you're reading this, then you've already paid for your Internet, so you may as well go and check it out.
