A week of wish granting for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine

PORTLAND, ME – March 14, 2011 – It will be a week of wish granting for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine as they work to grant wishes to three local children between March 22 - 29.

“It isn’t only one day these kids see their wish come true,” said Kate Vickery, program director at the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine. “It’s the build up of excitement and magic that stretches on to create lasting memories for these deserving kids.”

On March 19, Lucien, 6, of Gorham will have a party at Longhorn Steakhouse in South Portland to celebrate with friends and family the granting of his wish: To meet characters from Walt Disney’s Toy Story. Lucien and his family will leave for Walt Disney World® days later, where he’ll meet the official Toy Story characters.

Circuit - Wherein They Don't Like to Be Told

WHAT did he say about the other thug's spear?

WILL he take it back?

COULD he pay it forward instead?

CAN you make someone pay it forward?

Yes. In fact, the best way to make it forward is to be forced to pay it forward. That way, you know you're not just doing it in the hopes you'll get something in return! Karma will recognize this, and you should get something totally sweet as a reward. Just watch out that you don't make someone make you pay it forward... that's not cool. I can't make you read today's Circuit, but I hope you do anyway. Karma will notice.

Go read some Circuit!

Public Services asks residents to consider composting to save money and help the environment
PORTLAND, Maine – This month, the City of Portland Public Services Department kicked-off its third annual composting promotion by offering compost bins, wing diggers, kitchen waste pails and rain barrels at discounted prices for purchase. Last year more than 500 compost bins, wing diggers, kitchen pails and rain barrels were sold through the program. Maine State “Hot Shot” Championship is this Sunday March 13 at the Portland Expo

Some of Maine’s most talented young basketball players will compete for state titles on the Maine Red Claws Home Court

The NFL has “Punt, Pass and Kick;” Major League Baseball has “Pitch, Hit and Run;” and here in Maine, the Maine Red Claws of the NBA Developmental League sponsors the “Hot Shot” competition to give Maine’s young basketball players an opportunity to have fun while earning recognition for their basketball skills.  Maine’s Hot Shot competition is run by the Maine Recreation and Park Association (MRPA) which organizes local Hot Shot events across the state through municipal park and recreation departments and physical education classes in public schools.

“We’re delighted to see this competition grow each year,” said Sabrina Best, MRPA State Hot Shot Coordinator.  “The kids love it and coaches and physical education teachers are finding that the Hot Shot routine is an excellent drill to include as part of class and team practices.”
