Portland Public Library, Rines Auditorium.  FREE
Join award winning author Tess Gerritsen for a lecture and discussion about her new book Ice Cold.  Set in Wyoming at a medical conference, Boston medical examiner Maura Isles joins a group of friends on a spur-of-the-moment ski trip. But when their SUV stalls on a snow-choked mountain road, they’re stranded with no help in sight.
As night falls, the group seeks refuge from the blizzard in the remote village of Kingdom Come, where twelve eerily identical houses stand dark and abandoned. Something terrible has happened in Kingdom Come: Meals sit untouched on tables, cars are still parked in garages.

Portland Student Wins Acclaim for High School Sports Broadcasts

Cody Marcroft started announcing high school ice hockey games when he was an eighth grader at Portland’s Lincoln Middle School.  He quickly discovered a passion for sports broadcasting.

Five years later, Cody has spent more than 100 hours doing play-by-play and color for games airing on TV3, Portland’s educational access television station.  His careful research and enthusiastic banter have won him lots of fans.  He’s also built up an impressive portfolio that should help him pursue his goal of studying sports broadcasting in college and eventually working in the field.

A lifelong sports fan, Cody began thinking about a future career in sports broadcasting while in middle school.  In 2005, he attended a TV3 workshop on sports broadcasting with Lee Goldberg, sports reporter and anchor at WCSH6.  A family friend, Mike Verville, saw Cody at the workshop and asked if he wanted to help broadcast Deering High School boys’ ice hockey games.
