The St. Luke Players Present Third Musical

The St. Luke Players and Friends present "Go Out Singing", a musical by Broadway writers Hank Beebe and Bill Heyer under the artistic direction of Nancy Beebe with choreography by Linda Ford. "Go Out Singing" is a musical about the leaders of the early church and how they defied the Roman Empire with the power of love.

It is based primarily on the Acts of the Apostles, which describes the struggles of those early Christians who spread the word even as they experienced the turmoil of their own doubts and the persecution from the Romans. Although the subject is serious, the music and dance numbers assure a very entertaining evening.

This is the 30th anniversary of the Maine premiere of "Go Out Singing" which took place here at St. Luke's Cathedral in Portland. It is also the third musical in the Beebe trilogy about the beginnings of Christianity. "Foster Father" and "A Remarkable Mary" are the first two musicals in the trilogy. They were performed recently by the St. Luke Players and Friends.

Hank and Nancy Beebe have been active in the local theatrical community from the early 80's when they moved here from Manhattan. Among their many contributions has been the development of several community theaters in Maine.

St Luke's Players and Friends is the latest community theater group formed by the Beebe's. The operating philosophy of this community theatre is based on totally voluntary participation. Anyone and everyone who is interested is welcomed whether they have experience or not.

The musical will be presented at the Cathedral of St. Luke, 143 State Street in Portland on Friday, October 29th and Saturday, October 30th at 7pm, Sunday, October 31st at 2pm, Friday, November 5th and Saturday, November 6th at 7pm and Sunday, November 7th at 2pm. Suggested donation $10.
