Maine artists sought for artwork for MaineGeneral’s New Regional Hospital | Arts & Culture
MaineGeneral Medical Center is seeking proposals from all artists living in Maine to design, create and install artwork at the 640,000-square-foot New Regional Hospital now under construction in Augusta.
The design theme for the new hospital is “A journey to wellness, healing enhanced by nature.” Art will be commissioned to reinforce that theme and create a place of comfort that promotes wellness and healing. Artwork should have Maine as its subject matter and, in particular, have a connection to central Maine.
The total project budget for up to four commissioned pieces of art is $100,000. The submission deadline is July 31, 2012. For questions about this proposal and to submit art, e-mail MaineGeneralART@smrtinc.com All materials must be in electronic format and received by e-mail.
Art will be selected for four locations: main lobby, central waiting area, café courtyard and cafeteria terrace. For more information about these areas, go to ftp://MGMCART:Mgfirstname.lastname@example.org
Artwork of various types and media will be considered including, but not limited to, painting, printmaking, collage, sculpture, drawing, stained glass, photography, sculptural light features, craft and video.
The $100,000 budget will be used to commission works from single artists and/or artist teams. Proposals must cover all design, fabrication, transportation, documentation and installation expenses, including any building or site modifications needed.
There will be a two-phase selection process. A selection committee will jury initial submissions to determine who to invite for the second round. Materials will be evaluated within a month of the deadline and all applicants notified shortly after.
Artists selected for the second round will receive a stipend for refining their proposals. Final proposals will include detailed models, drawings, renderings, samples of work and materials. All finalists will present their final proposals for the committee in person
