The Grand Monster Re-opening of the International Cryptozoology Museum | Arts & Culture
The Grand Monster Re-opening of the International Cryptozoology Museum™ will be from Noon to 6:00 PM on Sunday, October 30, 2011, at our new location, 11 Avon Street, Portland, Maine. Come celebrate Halloween early at the “World’s First and Only Cryptozoology Museum”™! All admissions are $2.00 for this one-time event.
The new, expanded, enlarged location will be opening through the side entrance at 11 Avon Street, Portland, Maine. This is just around the corner from our present Congress Street location, but we will be using “11 Avon Street, Portland, Maine” for GPS purposes. The museum will be closed for one week before the reopening for the massive move and re-curating of the 3000+ artifacts, including the full-sized art sculptures of the Crookston Bigfoot, Freaky Links’ pterodactyl, P.T. Barnum’s FeeJee Mermaid, the Naden Harbor Caddy, and other cryptid replicas, evidence, and more.
The reduced one-time admission for this Grand Reopening Event will be $2 cash, with perhaps no change, per person. Greater donations will be appreciated to help with our move and re-design. The bookstore/gift shop will be open for this event.
In appreciation, each person admitted to the Grand Re-opening will receive a $5.00 discount gift shop coupon to be applied to a future purchase at the new museum’s store, good for one year, from November 2011, until next Halloween 2012.
The museum will be closed on some major holidays, and when the director and docents have to undertake expeditions or presentations elsewhere. It is a public museum, and appointments are not necessary. Introductory brief overviews are given as visitors arrive, and not at any specific times.
We are featured in the July/August 2011 issue of Yankee Magazine, and via a full-page ad in the August 2011 issue of Portland Monthly Magazine. The museum was noted as the most unique museum to visit in the “Best of USA” picks in the May 2011 issue of Reader’s Digest. Numerous other awards and list selections have occurred in 2009 and 2010, as well as mentions and good reviews on Roadside America, Atlas Obscura, Yelp, Huffington Post, MSNBC, and Trip Advisor.
