Yonder Mountain String Band, (YMSB), is a Netherland, Colorado-based genre defined bluegrass foursome. They have gained a huge following over the past eleven years playing at the nation’s best  festivals and rock clubs including an appearance at the Democratic National Convention prior to Barack Obama. Their loyal fan base has been built from this diverse setting of music venues as fans latched on to their genre-defying original sound.
In between tours, the band released its fifth studio album, The Show, in September with rock producer Tom Rothrock (Beck, Elliott Smith, Foo Fighters).

Coffee By Design Hosts Specialty Coffee Open House October 22

Coffee By Design invites the public to celebrate the best of specialty coffee on Friday, October 22, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm.  The event, which will be held at Coffee By Design’s coffee micro roastery located at 43 Washington Avenue in Downtown Portland, will give customers the opportunity to tour the micro roastery, learn about the Company’s buying criteria for beans, hear about how blends are created, and sample origin coffees from around the world.  Reservations are not required, as demonstrations will be on-going throughout the afternoon.

According to co-owner, Mary Allen Lindemann, “we are excited to show people what we do here at Coffee By Design, which results in a great cup of coffee while ensuring the quality of life for the farmers with whom we work, as well as our local community.  We look forward to having people join us in this celebration of coffee!”

In what is fast becoming a fall tradition in the Old Port, the Fabu Salon and Day Spa is once again sponsoring a 12-hour cut-a-thon and raffle to benefit Portland Charitable organizations which aid people in need. Fabu's staff of highly trained technicians will cut guests hair for $25.00. In addition, local restaurants and businesses have donated gift certificates and items that will be raffled off at the end of the day. To date, Fabu Salon and Day Spa has raised approximately $4000.00 for the Wayside Soup Kitchen. The Wayside Soup Kitchen is a non-profit center that has provided nutritious meals to the Greater Portland poor and homeless for more than 20 years. Wayside operates a food warehouse in Portland and distributes food - free of charge - to social service agencies throughout Cumberland County. "We are so fortunate to be part of such a generous community. Every year our cut-a-thon has been very well attended.
