Freeport, Maine, May 15, 2012  – The Freeport Rotary Club is sponsoring its 17th Annual Close to the Coast 5K and 10K Road Races. The races will take place on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Winslow Park in Freeport, Maine.   

The race is part of the Winslow Park Family Fun Day, a great time for families with all the events and park admission free of charge.  The events start with a Kids’ 1K Fun Run at 10 am with prizes for kids provided by Wilbur’s of Maine.  Additional, there is free admission to the Winslow Park for the day.  Hotdogs, ice cream, games, swimming, activities, playground and a moon bounce house will be available.

The 80th Anniversary Season at the Ogunquit Playhouse kicks off with Always, Patsy Cline, on stage from May 23 through June 16. This show is told through the letters of star-struck fan Louise Seger, portrayed by Emmy Award winning actress, Sally Struthers. This popular musical, which has enjoyed great success both off-Broadway and across the nation, is based on the true story of Cline’s friendship with Seger, who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in l961 and continued a correspondence with Cline until her death. Featuring the unforgettable hits of the Country Music mega-star, this funny and touching tribute celebrates the career and life of the singer who died tragically in a plane crash in 1963.

The Greater Portland Festival of Nations, to take place Saturday, July 29, 2012. returns to Deering Oaks Park, Sunday, July 29, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., to celebrate its tenth year as Maine’s largest and most authentic multi-cultural festival. The event is free and open to the public.

The Tenth Annual Greater Portland Festival of Nations aims to celebrate and embrace the cultural diversity of our community by encouraging understanding, appreciation and respect of the cultures of the State of Maine diverse community through a fun-filled day of music, dance, food, children’s activities and a marketplace. The festival offers a chance for families to spend time together and learn about other cultures from around the globe.

National Charter Schools Week – Maine has joined the movement

In 2011, Maine joined 40 other states in allowing public charter school options for families of all income levels.  On May 1, 2012, the Maine Charter School Commission issued its first application package for potential founders of these new public education options, which are free to parents and open to all children without admissions tests.

          The Maine Association for Charter Schools (MACS) will celebrate the great work accomplished by public charter schools across the country, where over 5,000 public chartered schools are serving 1.8 million students.

Prince Tuesday.  4-9pm.  Other nice beers on draft from the trio as well.  Great food will be sold by Local Sprouts (cookout style- for $10 you get burgers, kielbasa, potato salad, cole slaw and apple crisp).  We will all be there to visit.

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Kicks Off Great Strides Walk in Portland, Maine

The Northern New England chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation announced today the launch of Great Strides, a national walk that generates critical funds to support lifesaving cystic fibrosis research, education and care. The 2012 goal of Great Strides, the largest CF fundraiser, is to raise nearly $40 million.

The Portland walk is scheduled at the following location and will coincide with Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month in May:
