Bangor Savings Bank Launches Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive
Events

In these hard economic times, more Maine families are facing hunger than ever before. Bangor Savings Bank is stepping forward again in an effort to fight hunger. During the month of March, Bangor Savings Bank will be collecting peanut butter and jelly to benefit local food pantries statewide.  Donations can be made at any 56 Bangor Savings Bank branch locations throughout the state.

Peanut Butter is among one of the most expensive foods for food banks to purchase in large quantities.  But it is in high demand due to peanut butter being rich with protein and also having monounsaturated and polyunsaturated oils, the “good fats.” To jump start the initiative, Welch’s has generously donated 10 cases of grape jelly.

“The effort that Bangor Savings Bank puts toward ending hunger in Maine is commendable. Their support of food pantries in the communities where they have branch offices has been vital in helping us meet the need for hunger relief in the state. Now, thanks to this peanut butter & jelly drive, more families will have access to a protein-rich, non-perishable food, and it will make a big difference in their daily lives”, says Christine Force, Vice President of Fund Development and Strategic Initiatives at Good Shepherd Food-Bank.

For the second consecutive year, Bangor Savings Bank has partnered with the Good Shepherd Food Bank and has given $112,000 to assist food pantries in their communities. “This gift was leveraged into almost $900,000 of food for hungry families in 56 communities where we have branches. The Food Bank’s ability to leverage funds and make the most of these donations is so important. We know that businesses and families are very generous throughout the holiday season, but our employees understand that the need for food continues long after the holiday season is over,” says James Conlon, President and CEO of Bangor Savings Bank.

“With generous support from local media partners WLBZ-TV/Channel 2 and WCSH-TV/Channel 6, we hope to get the word out and get the public involved in helping our local food pantries through this initiative”, says Conlon.

Bangor Savings Bank is asking the public to show its support in helping Maine families by dropping off peanut and jelly during the month of March at any Bangor Savings Bank location.
