Become a "Friend" of Girls on the Run-Maine

What Makes a Good Friend?  YOU!

Since Fall 2011, bringing Girls on the Run to Maine has been a true team effort. Many energetic friends attended Steering Committee meetings, responded to countless e-mails, shared ideas and, most importantly, believed in and worked hard to make our dream a reality.

Because it truly does take a village, two of our original leaders, Emily Flowers and Valerie Costello (“Em and Val”) have formed “The Friends of GOTR-ME” to celebrate and retain all of the incredible people who  helped launch GOTR-ME, and to welcome new friends who would like to support GOTR-ME moving forward. As GOTR-ME looks to expand beyond Portland, the Friends of GOTR-ME will be essential to supporting that growth.

So, what makes a good “Friend?”

First, Friends stay INVOLVED! As a “Friend” of GOTR-ME, you can be a coach, a running buddy, a site liaison, a 5K volunteer, a Committee member or provide much needed administrative or logistical support.

Second, Friends TALK! We want our “Friends” of GOTR-ME to be our champions in the community, spreading the word and getting parents, girls and other stakeholders excited about bringing a program to their town!

Third, Friends SHARE! Our “Friends” will also get together periodically to have “Information Sessions” -- opportunities to learn about specific needs within the organization and to match skill sets with those needs. We also hope to do some fun things along the way; last spring, we did a “Fun Run” through Deering Oaks park to view our upcoming Hot ChocoTrot race course. Next, we will volunteer at a water stop to cheer on our “Solemates” at the Maine Marathon on September 30. These wonderful people have raised over $4,600 for us!

Our first “Friends Information Session” will be held Tuesday, September 25th at The Wellness Solution in Falmouth from 6:30-8:30 PM. This will be a fantastic way to learn more about volunteer opportunities with GOTR-ME and, most importantly, to make some new FRIENDS!

Please RSVP at:  http://gotrmefriends.eventbrite.com/.

And as always, visit http://girlsontherunmaine.org/ for more info about GOTR-ME. Thanks, FRIENDS!
