Deering principal appointed acting superintendent in Portland | News

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Deering High School Principal Ira Waltz will serve as Portland's acting superintendent until someone is hired to fill the position on a permanent basis.
Tuesday night's vote by the Portland Board of Education voted was unanimous. Waltz will hold the position until August 31, or until the new superintendent begins work.
The new superintendent will replace James Morse, who left earlier this month to become superintendent of the Oyster River School DIstrict in New Hampshire.
Waltz has been Deering's principal since the summer of 2010. He was assistant superintendent of the Wells-Ogunquit Community School District from 2002 to 2010, and he held several administrative positions in the Scarborough schools.
