Man arrested in connection to suspicious package makes first court appearance

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- 64-year-old George Dimauro made is first appearance in court today after being arrested in conjunction with the suspicious package left at 100 Middle Street on Monday. Dimauro is being charged with terrorizing, a Class C felony.

After being read the charges in court Wednesday afternoon, Dimauro refused to respond, point to his throat and making hand gestures. It was only after the judge appointed him a lawyer that Dimauro spoke, saying, "Jesus Christ is my lawyer." The judge ordered Dimauro undergo a competency evaluation.

Dimauro's arrest is in connection with a suspicious package discovered Monday morning at 100 Middle Street in downtown Portland. The building was evacuated and the streets were closed while officers investigated. Dimauro is currently being held at the Cumberland County Jail.
