PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A Maine couple is in Washington as part of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns' Demand A Plan campaign.
Judi and Wayne Richardson are two of more than 120 survivors of gun violence and their family members who are in Washington to meet with congressmen and the media to advocate for what organizers call "common-sense gun law reforms."
The Richardsons' 25-year-old daughter, Darien Richardson, died of complications from a gunshot wound after she was shot three years ago by an intruder who broke into a Portland apartment she shared with roommates. Her death remains unsolved.
The gun used to shoot Richardson was later used in another fatal shooting in Portland, but police say they don't know who owned the weapon because it was bought at a private gun show.
