PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A man police say robbed a Portland bank was on the run for just nine minutes.
Officers responded to the Key Bank in Monument Square just after 2 p.m. Tuesday after a teller called to report a robbery. The teller said a man handed over a note demanding money, then fled east on Congress Street with $1,000.
A description of the suspect was broadcast to officers in the area.
Just about nine minutes later, an officer on patrol noticed a man matching the robber's description. Police arrested 49-year-old Joseph Blais of Portland after finding $1,000 wrapped in a bank band on him along with other evidence linking him to the robbery.
No weapon was used and no one was hurt.
