The Homeless Animal Rescue Team (HART), an adoption center and shelter for cats and kittens located in Cumberland on the corner of Rt. 100 and Range Rd., has announced a fundraising event, The Harbor Cruise for HART.  The cruise will be aboard the Casco Bay Lines Bay Mist on Saturday, September 10th from 7:00 to 10:00 pm.  “The Harbor Cruise for HART will be a fun event with great music, door prizes, and a cash bar.  HART is looking for fun, new ways to raise money for the all-volunteer, no-kill cat shelter.  What could be better than spending a fun evening out on beautiful Casco Bay with friends, while at the same time helping the cats and kittens that HART takes such good care of? ” said Marcia Carr, volunteer.  Information can be found at www.hartofme.com.

April Stools Day, more thrash than turds

April Stools Day, more thrash than turds

Volunteers scoured the Eastern Promenade Saturday for April Stools Day. They stuffed dozens of large trash bags with cast-off food containers, paper, bottles and of course pet poop.

Saturday’s cleanup was sponsored by Friends of the Eastern Promenade and Fetch Pet Supply.  This year marked the 19th April Stools Day.  The event was started by Diane Davison, Munjoy Hill resident and president of Friends of the Eastern Promenade long before the majority of dog owners carried bags and picked up after their pets.

"The early years were truly disgusting and we collected primarily dog waste,” Davison said.
