Downtown Worker Appreciation Day!

Downtown Worker Appreciation Day!

As I was stepping out of the elevator this morning at the office, three of my department colleagues stepped in.

"There's free coffee down in front of the Portland Museum of Art!"

"Free COFFEE?  Say no more!"

Come to find out, today is Downtown Worker Appreciation Day, organized by Portland Downtown District and Portland Buy Local.

Smiling folks from Coffee by Design handed me a hot, fresh cup of light roast.  Yum.  Another smiling person handed me, like, the BEST bag of swag I've received in a long time.

I love working downtown... today I love it EVEN MORE!

Thank you!!!

Local Children’s Author to Lead StoryWalk in Bath’s Library Park

Local Children’s Author to Lead StoryWalk in Bath’s Library Park

The community is invited to take a self-guided StoryWalk at Library Park on Wednesday, May 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 pm. A StoryWalk is an innovative way to combine physical activity and reading and is appropriate for all ages. Pages of a book are transformed into signs that are laid out in a trail, inviting families, children, caregivers, teachers, and others to follow the path of pages.

The book offered for this StoryWalk is Scoot! a nature-filled story by Maine children’s author and illustrator Cathryn Falwell. Falwell will visit the Library Park Gazebo at 4:00 p.m. to present an interactive word game about movement, read from Scoot!, and lead visitors through the StoryWalk. Scoot! and other books by the author will be available for purchase and signing.

Portland Hubs in the Winter Months

Portland Hubs in the Winter Months

Monetarily speaking, things have been a bit tight this winter. I know I share this in common with many other Portlanders, and for that matter the rest of the country, and, the world.  I have to admit, there has not been a lot of room for “extras”. I am specifically speaking of luxurious items, and although I do consider myself carefree and in no need of excessive things, from time to time it lightens the load. For me, extravagant these days consists of a happy hour, a haircut, or a new pair of leg warmers to wear out on a Friday night. Those unnecessary articles are sometimes what I base my happiness on when I am unhappy, although they have no power to define me. They serve the purpose of a Band Aid. I’d be just as pleased to invest in a new jar of Cornichons (French pickles in vinegar that cost nearly an arm and a leg) and eat them while writing about how much I do not need extras in my life.

The Creatorium- Rockland's first indie craft show... just in time for the holiday
Holiday Craft Fair
Friday Dec. 2nd from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.
&
Saturday Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
@ the Lincoln Street Center Rockland's first indie craft show...
just in time for the holiday.

This will not be the church craft fair that you went to last year...trying to decide between the wooden geese, doilies and the rayon yarn vests in red and green.

This will be the juried creatives fair of Rockland, where artists, artisans, craftspeople, and foodies can sell their wares to folks who are looking for the perfect gift for friends, family and coworkers.  Maybe for themselves, too!

We will be located in the gym of the Lincoln Street Center, 24 Lincoln Street, with over 50 booths!
