Eat Your Plate Meets Harvest on the Harbor

Eat Your Plate Meets Harvest on the Harbor

A couple of weeks ago I was asked to be the dessert chef at the "Lobster Chef of the Year" event that is being held at Harvest on the Harbor. The moment I was asked, I was filled with joy and excitement, completely astonished that I would be invited anywhere considering I am so new to the food scene. Luckily for me, the aesthetic of my website allows people to have confidence in my abilities. Once the initial feeling of excitement subsided, the nervousness began to set in and ever since I have been a bit of a basket case. The dessert has to be blueberry in nature and for me, that poses a little bit of a predicament since I don't love blueberries completely on their own. And because of this, I don't frequently use them in my baking unless it's a pie or a tart. This led me to have a bit of writer's block when it came to building a recipe which then caused me to sit on my computer at two in the morning googling "blueberry" just to find some sort of inspiration.

America's Favorite LivingSocial Deals

America's Favorite LivingSocial Deals

Have you ever wondered if anyone actually purchased that LivingSocial deal for botox or pole dancing that you remember reading in bed while you were checking your emails before you got in the shower? They had 24 hours to make the choice and according to this week's release by Living Social of their 2nd Quarter report [April - June], it is certain that these deals were and are being scooped up by the thousands! I am a huge fan of a great deal as most of you already know and think that paying retail for anything, especially for food, fitness & entertainment is completely unnecessary.

I found the 2nd Quarter information quite interesting because it’s interesting to see what deals Americans’ are obsessed with, as well as the trends in the marketplace.

Portland, ME (July 21, 2011)—The Greater Portland Convention & Visitors Bureau presents the Fourth Annual Harvest on the Harbor -- Maine’s premier food and wine experience -- to be held Thursday through Saturday, October 20-22, at Ocean Gateway on Portland’s picturesque waterfront.  New events this year will include Top of the Crop: Maine’s Best Farm to Table Chef, where an esteemed panel of judges along with audience input, determine which chef most successfully captures the farm to table experience.  Skillfully paired wines and a crisp apple dessert will round out this robust rendezvous.

This year, Harvest puts a new spin on the Ultimate Seafood Splash, teaming up with local fishermen to introduce lesser-known, abundant species of fish from the cold coastal waters of Maine.  These emerging, responsibly harvested fish will

Ice Cream vs. Gelato vs. Frozen Custard - What's the Difference?

Ice Cream vs. Gelato vs. Frozen Custard - What's the Difference?

Over the past couple of years, it seems as if gelato and frozen custard shops are have been opening up here and there and I have found myself asking “What is the difference between the three? They are all pretty much ice cream right?” Well not quite… There are big differences between them all and I thought I would dig in [no pun intended ] and try to distinguish what is what while you try to make the best choices for yourself this summer…
