Hemingway and Fitzgerald had the Ritz Bar in Paris. Portuguese poet, Fernando Pessoa, is immortalized in bronze outside the Café A Brasileira in Lisbon. Jack Kerouac, Dylan Thomas, Norman Mailer, and Hunter S. Thompson all spent many a drunken evening at the White Horse Tavern in New York City.

Gritty McDuff's among four Maine restaurants to be awarded 2011 restaurant neighbor award

Portland, ME – Gritty McDuff’s Brewing Company announced today that it is one of four Maine restaurants to be awarded the National Restaurant Association’s (NRA’s) Restaurant Neighbor Award.  The award announcement was made today by Dick Grotton, President and CEO of the Maine Restaurant Association (MeRA). 

“NRA’s Restaurant Neighbor Award honors chefs and restaurateurs for consistently going above and beyond in giving back to their communities,” Grotton noted.  “Gritty’s Co-owners Ed Stebbins and Richard Pfeffer are essential to Maine for their ongoing role in so many neighborhood efforts and charity events within the state.”

Stebbins and Pfeffer’s success has extended beyond their three brew pubs into various community efforts.  Since 2008, Gritty’s cycling team has attracted a legion of participants committed to making an impact on Maine charities.  Throughout its history, the team has donated $92,000 in cash and support to organizations

Maine Restaurant Week kicks off with the 2011 Signature Event

PORTLAND, Maine – Expanding on last year’s legendary cocktail competition, the March 2011 Maine Restaurant Week kick-off Signature Event introduces a two-pronged dessert competition. Taking place on February 28 at the Masonic Temple in Portland from 5-8 pm, the Signature Event celebrates the priceless individuality behind Maine’s cocktail shakers and sugar shacks.

Cookies challenge cakes and cupcakes take on truffles in the “How Sweet It Is” portion of the competition, but only one can win. Guests at The Signature Event have the final say in this people’s choice face-off.
