Temporary One Lane Closure On The Existing Veterans Memorial Bridge Which Connects Portland And South Portland, Off Of Route 295

PORTLAND – Due to construction of the new Veterans Memorial Bridge which began in July last year, MaineDOT will be closing one southbound lane on the existing Veterans Memorial Bridge which connects Portland’s West End to South Portland over the Fore River.  The closure will take place on Wednesday, February 9th from 7 A.M. to 4 P.M., weather permitting.  This one lane closure will occur periodically over the next four months, allowing construction crews to support concrete placements at three sets of piers on the South Portland end.

Drivers using the southbound lane of the Veterans Memorial Bridge should expect some delays starting February 9th.  We regret any inconvenience caused by the closure and traffic restrictions and urge drivers to drive safely and courteously.  Please observe all signage and use extra caution when traveling through the construction area.

The new bridge is expected to open to traffic in July, 2012 with the removal of the old bridge completed in December, 2012.
