Traffic Advisory - Baxter Boulevard, Payson Park and Woodlawn Avenue

Beginning tomorrow, November 15, and continuing through the week, crews will be conducting pavement repairs on Baxter Boulevard from Preble Street and Dartmouth Street, Payson Park, and Woodlawn Avenue between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:30 PM.  Work is weather dependent.  While the work is ongoing, commuters may want to seek an alternate route to avoid traffic and delays. Motorists are urged to watch out for bicyclists and pedestrians in these work zones.

Due to construction of the new Veterans Memorial Bridge which began in July 2010, the existing Veterans Memorial Bridge which connects Portland’s West End to South Portland over the Fore River will be closed at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov 16 and reopen the next morning at 6:00 a.m.

During this overnight bridge closure, construction crews will conclude the installation of an underground communication conduit which crosses over existing travel lanes of the Veterans Memorial Bridge. 

There will be detour signs and message boards for the best alternate routes.

Stop Signs to be Installed on Middle Street

Later this month, the City of Portland Department of Public Services will be installing two new Stop signs in the Downtown District. The signs will be placed on Middle Street at the intersection with Market Street. As a motorist, pedestrian, or bicyclist, the city asks that commuters use extra caution and observe all signage and striping at this busy location.

 

METRO Service Holiday UPDATE: Columbus Day

Greater Portland Transit District, METRO, will operate a Saturday service schedule for all routes on Columbus Day—Monday, October 10, 2011. The METRO office, at 114 Valley Street in Portland, will be closed for the day.

METRO does not operate on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Buses run on a Saturday service schedule on President’s Day, Patriot’s Day and Columbus Day.

METRO, with bus ridership averaging 1.4 million annually, is Maine’s largest public transportation carrier, providing bus service to Portland, Westbrook, Falmouth and the Maine Mall area of South Portland.

Road Crack Sealing Work Begins Today

Crews to seal cracks in major arterials and residential areas to extend lifespan of the street 

PORTLAND, Maine – Beginning today, September 28th and continuing through October, crews will conduct day and nighttime crack sealing along major arterials and residential streets throughout Portland.  Work on residential streets will be done during the day and major arterials work will take place overnight.
