Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers is a Massachusetts' trio made up of two distinct parts. In one corner stands the unmistakably jubilant personality of rock-n-roll’s The Sixers; in the other sits an authentic American songwriter in a period of profound growth. Rising triumphantly in the center is a band whose music is the perfect marriage of the two. For the past five years,Kellogg & the Sixers have toured non-stop, some years clocking in close to 300 shows.

"Human highlight reel" highlights diabetes management

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- NBA hall of famer Dominique Wilkins came to Portland Wednesday to inspire kids to take better care of their health.

Wilkins met with a group of young diabetes patients at the Portland Club, signing autographs and telling his own story of when he learned he had Type II diabetes.

Even though both his father and grandfather died of the disease, Wilkins says, he felt invincible as a 9-time NBA All-Star, and it never occurred to him that he could get it, too.  After his career ended in 1999, Wilkins says, he stopped working out, but continued to eat whatever he wanted.  He was diagnosed with diabetes in 2000.

"This is an opportunity for the professional Maine chef who features boutique proteins, artisanal cheeses and extraordinary specialty foods on their menus to meet local food producers and European specialty food purveyors in one place.

At this event, Maine farmers who raise pasture fed and sustainable proteins will be along side merchants who work with small, family-owned European artisans that produce cheese, olives, oils, vinegars & musts, thus bringing to Maine the finest flavors of the world.
