Town & Country to Plant Breast Cancer Awareness Garden in Portland's Back Cove

To build awareness for breast cancer and to encourage people to believe that someday there will be a cure, Town & Country Federal Credit Union is working with the City of Portland, Back Cove Neighborhood Association and the Maine Cancer Foundation to add some color to one of the city’s busiest streets.
On Monday, November 8th at 1:00 pm, Town & Country employees will come together with Maine Cancer Foundation volunteers, Back Cove Neighborhood Association friends, and members of the Portland Parks Department staff to plant more than 600 pink tulip bulbs at the Baxter Sundial Garden located at the corner of Baxter Boulevard and Vannah Street.
The Baxter Sundial Garden will be the latest Maine Cancer Foundation’s Pink Tulip Project flower bed planted in the Portland area.  More than 125,000 tulip bulbs have been planted in more than 400 awareness gardens since the program began in 2006.  This year alone, over 30,000 pink tulip bulbs have been planted in gardens across Maine.  The Pink Tulip Project has raised over $200,000 in support  of Maine Cancer Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Fund.
Later this fall, Town & Country will be opening a new branch on Forest Avenue and will continue to sponsor the Baxter Sundial Garden throughout the coming years.  Once the pink tulip blooms fade, Town & Country will refresh the garden in the summer and fall with an array of pink plants and flowers to maintain the awareness about breast cancer throughout the year.
The Pink Tulip Project garden at the corner of Baxter Boulevard and Vannah Street is expected to be in full bloom in late April to early May, with a sea of pink tulips.
All proceeds from the Pink Tulip Project benefit the Women’s Cancer Fund at Maine Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to funding research and finding hope for the people of Maine. Since 1976, the Foundation has supported cancer research, education and patient support programs throughout the state. All funds raised remain in Maine. For more information, visit
