Eliminating Title X will be devastating for Maine women and their families

What: Press Conference sponsored by the Maine Choice Coalition in response to the U.S. House of Representatives’ elimination of the nation’s 40-year-old family planning program, known as Title X—the program that helps pay for birth control, screening and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, breast and cervical cancer testing, and prenatal care for low-income women. In Maine, approximately 30,000 women, men, and teens receive lifesaving—and cost-saving—preventive and primary health care services every year at a family planning health center.

Peters of South Portland; Kate Brogan, Family Planning Association of Maine; Jenna Vendil, Planned Parenthood of Northern New England; Seren Huus of Portland; Sarah Standiford, Maine Women’s Lobby; Shenna Bellows, Maine Civil Liberties Union; and Ruth Lockhart, Mabel Wadsworth Women’s Health Center will call upon Maine Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins to protect women’s access reproductive health care.
