The public is invited to the 18th Annual Brunswick Bike Rodeo & Family Safety Day. Families are encouraged to participate.

TIME/DATE: 9 a.m. - Noon, Saturday, May 19, 2012 (Rain Date: Sunday, May 20)

LOCATION: Walmart Parking Lot, 228 Bath Road, Brunswick

Events include:

  • Bike Safety Inspections
  • Drawings for Bicycles, Gifts Certificates, and Prizes
  • Hot Dogs, Pizza, Beverages, and Ice Cream
  • Helmet Giveaway
  • Bike Registrations
  • Visits by McGruff, Crusher, and Sparky the Fire Dog
  • Police K9 and Brunswick Fire Department 'Smoke House' Demonstrations and More
  • Bike Obstacle Course -- Event Tote Bags for each child completing obstacle course

National Charter Schools Week – Maine has joined the movement

In 2011, Maine joined 40 other states in allowing public charter school options for families of all income levels.  On May 1, 2012, the Maine Charter School Commission issued its first application package for potential founders of these new public education options, which are free to parents and open to all children without admissions tests.

          The Maine Association for Charter Schools (MACS) will celebrate the great work accomplished by public charter schools across the country, where over 5,000 public chartered schools are serving 1.8 million students.

5K fundraiser to help Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic

The sneakers will hit the pavement for a good cause on Saturday, April 21, as the Maine Law Student Bar Association hosts the annual Race Judicata, a 5K race/walk along Portland’s scenic Back Cove.
 
Race Judicata is a fundraiser for Maine Law’s Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic. At the Clinic, third-year law students provide legal services to low-income clients. The “student attorneys” are specially licensed by the state and federal courts, and they work under the close supervision of Maine Law professors.
 
The race starts at 1:30 p.m. Awards will be given to the top three males and females overall, and top two in the following age groups: 14 and under; 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70-79; 80 and over.
 

Carlisle Academy Integrative Equine Therapy & Sports to Offer World-Class Paralympic Training Camp a

Para Equestrians from around the country will spend a week at this inaugural training camp with international judges and professionals in preparation for the London Paralympic Games

LYMAN — Carlisle Academy Integrative Equine Therapy & Sports, a premier organization offering comprehensive equestrian educational services, announced it will host its first Paralympic Training Camp April 16-20, as well as a Train the Trainers Program April 20-21 at Spring Creek Farm, 65 Drown Lane. Developing Para Equestrians from around the country
-several of whom will be riding in the upcoming United States Paralympic Selection Trials this spring- will be training with top international judges and specialists right here in Maine to prep for the Olympic Games in London. Following the camp, an instructional program for trainers will be held. The event and all of the activities are open to the public.
