Laura Vogel Memorial 5K race & Marginal Way traffic

Laura Vogel Memorial 5K race & Marginal Way traffic

The Laura Vogel Memorial 5K race starts at 10am tomorrow and loops around the northern edge of Bayside several times, which may make getting in and out of the Trader Joe's/EMS/etc parking lots difficult.  Please note: The race will be taking place on sidewalks when/where possible.

Folks who can avoid the Elm/Marginal intersection from 10-11:30am may wish to do so to avoid delays.

It's a somewhat casual race - runners, joggers, and folks with dogs and strollers will all be participating, so presumably the pack may/will stretch out quite a pit.

All State Musicians Have Many Talents

All State Musicians Have Many Talents

The correlation between participation in music and excelling academically is on display at the All State Music Festival on the Gorham campus of USM.  Poland

Regional High School students Ben Albee and Tyler Myers are prime examples.  Myers, singing bass in the All State Chorus, is the salutatorian of his graduating

class.  Albee, playing trombone in the All State Orchestra, is also an honor student and will be Master of Ceremonies at graduation.  There are many students at

the MMEA All State Music Festival who are the top students at their schools including Kaitlyn Kinsey, playing flute in the All State Band, who is Valedictorian of

her class at Fort Fairfield High School.

Red Cross in Maine to hold Armed Forces Walks

Portland, Maine, May 6, 2011 – Maine’s First Lady and Adjutant General have partnered
with the American Red Cross to sponsor two Armed Forces Walks which are scheduled for
June 5, 2011.
The Red Cross movement began on the battlefield in 1881. Today, the work continues, as
volunteers and paid staff of the Red Cross forms a vast and unique network of services that
provides assistance 24 hours a day to aid both our troops abroad as well as their loved ones
here in Maine. The Red Cross efficiently provides time-sensitive communications and serves
as the link between the medical community at home and military members at home and
abroad. The Red Cross also uses this network to coordinate with military aid societies and
provide a local contact for financial assistance to active duty members, retirees, and their
